Family Law
Stack Fernandez Anderson & Harris, P.A. has an established and well respected family law practice in South Florida. A majority of the cases handled by the firm's family law attorneys involve divorce proceedings within the court system. However, the firm also handles “collaborative law” divorce proceedings, domestic and international child relocation proceedings, post-judgment modification proceedings, support proceedings not involving a divorce, child custody matters, international and domestic child kidnapping cases, paternity lawsuits, third-party visitation claims and guardianship actions. In addition to the family law proceedings identified above, our family law attorneys negotiate and draft both pre-nuptial and post-marital agreements.
The typical divorce case handled by the firm involves marital estates valued at between $2 million and $30 million, and the firm represents both husbands and wives. We will also negotiate and draft pre-nuptial or post-marital agreements, provided the net value of the parties’ combined estates exceeds $2 million.
Gregory Anderson chairs the firm’s family law practice. Greg has developed a unique expertise in representing foreign citizens in family law and custody proceedings in Florida. Assisting Greg is Paul Kobak, an associate attorney with the firm. Greg and Paul oversee a group of paralegals and assistants who specialize in family law and who provide the necessary support to the lawyers. SFAH’s family law department also has extensive experience in the various forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution, including mediation and trials before non-judges.
Because lawyers do not have the necessary expertise to handle all issues that may confront spouses in divorce and other family law proceedings, SFAH has cultivated longstanding relationships with accountants, tax advisors, investment advisors, private banks, lending, business valuation firms, vocational experts, private investigators and a group of mental health professionals to assist our clients and our lawyers with all non-legal aspects of our clients’ family law matters. It is absolutely vital that SFAH and our clients can rely on these other professionals for their assistance in negotiating settlement agreements and for their expert testimony if the matter is tried in court. For this reason, our clients are encouraged to meet with the relevant experts who will work on their cases at the outset of the representation so that they feel comfortable and confident about the “team” who will be representing them.
Any proceeding or lawsuit involving family law issues can be extremely costly to resolve. They tend to involve emotional decisions and deep-rooted personal feelings that often cause the spouses or parents involved to lose sight of the financial burden it is placing on them and, more importantly, the impact the proceedings are having on their children. Because of the time and effort involved, many lawyers do not provide their family law clients with the counseling and guidance that they need in order to make the best possible decisions for themselves, both personally and financially, as well as for their children. In contrast, SFAH’s lawyers take pride in caring for, and about, their clients and their families. Our lawyers understand that family law proceedings are more personal than your typical business-related lawsuits and often involve young children who are forced to live through an ordeal that was not of their making.
